چکیده

This paper focuses on describing our method designed for both track 2 and track 3 at Looking at People (LAP) challenging [1]. We propose an action and gesture spotting system, which is mainly composed of three steps: (i) temporal segmentation, (ii) clip classification, and (iii) post processing. For track 2, we resort to a simple sliding window method to divide each video sequence into clips, while for track 3, we design a segmentation method based on the motion analysis of human hands. Then, for each clip, we choose a kind of super vector representation with dense features. Based on this representation, we train a linear SVM to conduct action and gesture recognition. Finally, we use some post processing techniques to void the detection of false positives. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method by participating the contests of both track 2 and track 3. We obtain the best performance on track 2 and rank 4 on track 3, which indicates that the designed system is effective for action and gesture recognition.

Vision-Based Hand Gesture Spotting and Recognition Using CRF and SVM

In this paper, a novel gesture spotting and recognition technique is proposed to handle hand gesture from continuous hand motion based on Conditional Random Fields in conjunction with Support Vector Machine. Firstly, YCbCr color space and 3D depth map are used to detect and segment the hand. The depth map is to neutralize complex background sense. Secondly, 3D spatio-temporal features for hand ...

Multi-modal Gesture Recognition Using Skeletal Joints and Motion Trail Model

This paper proposes a novel approach to multi-modal gesture recognition by using skeletal joints and motion trail model. The approach includes two modules, i.e. spotting and recognition. In the spotting module, a continuous gesture sequence is segmented into individual gesture intervals based on hand joint positions within a sliding window. In the recognition module, three models are combined t...

Declarative Gesture Spotting using Inferred and Refined Control Points

We propose a novel gesture spotting approach that offers a comprehensible representation of automatically inferred spatiotemporal constraints. These constraints can be defined between a number of characteristic control points which are automatically inferred from a single gesture sample. In contrast to existing solutions which are limited in time, our gesture spotting approach offers automated ...

A Real-Time Approach to the Spotting, Representation, and Recognition of Hand Gestures for Human-Computer Interaction

Aiming at the use of hand gestures for human–computer interaction, this paper presents a real-time approach to the spotting, representation, and recognition of hand gestures from a video stream. The approach exploits multiple cues including skin color, hand motion, and shape. Skin color analysis and coarse image motion detection are joined to perform reliable hand gesture spotting. At a higher ...

Real-Time Spotting Recognition of Gesture Motion Image and Spontaneous Speech

A spotting algorithm is proposed to recognize the meanings of 1) human gestures from motion images, 2) spontaneous speech. The spotting algorithm removes the need for temporal segmentation of gesture/utterance duration and introduces frame-wise recognition suitable for realizing a real-time system. We carried out some experiments into gesture/utterance recognition and the results have confirmed...
